Let us meet this day in peace

Peace is a decision we make
not when things are going well
but when they’re going badly.
Peace is a decision we make
not when we’re surrounded by friends and wellwishers
but when we find ourselves trapped with people
we secretly
(and sometimes not so secretly)
wish would just go away.
Peace can be hard won,
unstable and dynamic,
hard to define
even when you’re holding it in your hand.
Peace can be dangerous to the one who wields it.
It should probably come with a warning sign.
Peace is a decision we make
not once
but over and over
and over…
and over again.
Let us meet this day in peace.

A response to terror

We will not be onlookers in this world
We will not simply stand by and wish that things were different.
We will not be pushed and bullied out of this world
We will not retreat to a gentler, kinder world of our own
Where there is violence
We will meet it with peace.
Where there is greed
We will meet it with justice
Where there is despair
We will meet it with hope
Where there is shouting
We will meet it with song
Where there is emptiness
We will meet it with fullness
Where there is hatred
We will meet it with love.
We will not be onloookers in this world, loving God.
We will not turn our back and walk away…
Because when we met you with indifference and violence,
injustice and suspicion
you gathered us in your arms
and drew us into your grace.
We will walk towards… not away from this world, loving God
Walk with us and hold us in your grace
We ask in Jesus name
Amen
